The Land of Extinct Volcanoes
is one of the most interesting regions in Poland
in terms of geology!
Where to find former volcanoes?
Of course, the Kaczawskie Mountains and Foothills are not the only place in Poland where you can find hills and rocks that testify to past volcanic activity. However, the variety of volcanic rock formations and the clear traces of three periods of volcanic activity set our region apart on the map of Poland, and even Europe.
Three periods of volcanism
The volcanoes in the area of today’s Kaczawskie Foothills didn’t erupt simultaneously.
We can observe the remnants of volcanic activity from three geological periods here:
Paleozoic volcanism
(around 500 million years ago)
Cenozoic volcanism
(around 20 million years ago)
Or maybe with a guide?
In our Geopark, you can take advantage of
a variety of geological workshops and trips.
Here are the upcoming events for Earth Science enthusiasts.
