The water reservoir in Mściwojów was created on the Wierzbiak River in 1999. There is a unique European-scale self-purification system here, involving the creation of natural backwaters covered with special vegetation that filters the water from the preliminary reservoir flowing into the main reservoir. It is nothing but the planting of marsh vegetation on biological barriers and along the shores. The reservoir is beautifully situated at the foot of Winna Mountain, where urban noise does not reach.
The water reservoir in Mściwojów was perfectly integrated into the landscape and gives the impression of a natural body of water. Since 2004, it has been open to anglers, with a clear prohibition on fishing at night. The water is managed by the PZW “Wierzbiak” angling association, where you can purchase a fishing permit. Fishing is allowed starting one hour before sunrise and ending one hour after sunset. Around the reservoir, there are comfortable spots for carp fishing, as this species is dominant in the waters, with the largest population. The carp still originate from the initial stocking, so you can catch specimens in the weight range of 7 to 12 kg. In Mściwojów, you can also catch grass carp, crucian carp, trout, common bream, tench, perch, and pike on the fishing rod.
In most of the reservoir, the conditions are similar, with a predominantly hard gravel-sand bottom. Mud is only present in some areas and has a relatively thin layer. Experienced anglers suggest carp fishing near the dam, where the water is deepest and carp are most active. The best month for fishing in the reservoir, yielding the best results, is May. At least that’s what the insiders say.
Next to it is the Scout Sailing Station, equipped with a beautiful pier, tourist shelters, and small watercraft. On its premises, there is a clearing used as a camping field. Along the reservoir, there is a walking path with a view of the Strzegom Mountains. The total surface area of the water reservoir is 35 hectares. A viewing tower towers over the reservoir.
Sailing Station by the ‘Mściwojów’ reservoir.
The area of the Sailing Station covers 2 hectares of grassy clearing, bordering a beautiful forest, which is used as a camping field during the summer. The infrastructure of the base also includes four wooden shelters with seating for approximately 45 people. In the centre of one of them, a permanent stone grill is installed. An additional feature of the station is a 30-metre pier used for mooring watercraft. It’s worth mentioning that an educational ecological-natural path runs through the station’s area, created as part of the project ‘The Fate of Nature Intertwines with the History of People.’ The host of the facility is the Sailing Club ‘Widmo’ based in Targoszyn – a team of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association (Związek Harcerstwa Polskiego) in the Jawor District.
The station is equipped with small sailing yachts, modern kayaks, canoes, and windsurfing equipment. On-site, all necessary rescue and safety measures are available to facilitate recreational activities. This type of systematic activities for children and youth is organized annually during the summer season.
Moreover, the sailing station hosts a Sailing Picnic during which participants can enjoy attractions such as motorboat and sailing trips, sea shanty singing contests, kayaking competitions, and a forest rope town is set up. The picnic is an outdoor event, completely open to residents and tourists visiting the area. “It aims to promote sports and active forms of recreation, as well as educate about the principles of safe behaviour around water and water reservoirs.
