The overgrown quarry located approximately 500 meters northeast of the palace in Grodziec, in the northern part of the forest grove extending into the cultivated fields. The easiest way to reach it is by moving eastward along the edge of the forest from the Grodziec – Jurków road; occasional exposures, especially on the western wall.
Exposing carbonate rocks constitute a part of the upper structural layer of the Bolesławiec syncline, the northern fragment of the North Sudetic synclinorium. These are formations of the Middle Zechstein. In the local stratigraphic division, they correspond to the upper part of the Zechstein limestone (Ca1) in the Southern Permian Basin.
In the exposure, medium- to thick-bedded, gray limestones and dolomitic limestones are visible. Predominantly, there are grainy, oolitic limestones. Fossils are scarce, primarily consisting of clams and snails. Interesting formations, somewhat older (Lower Zechstein), are poorly exposed several dozen meters to the south of the quarry, in the ditch near the former adit of the Upadowa Grodziec mine. In them and on the scattered heaps, you can find a large number of fossils typical for the open platform of the Zechstein Basin: in addition to the remains of mollusks, brachiopods, and crinoids are abundantly represented. One can also encounter carbonized remains of Permian flora.
