About Wojciesz\u00f3w<\/h4>\n

“Despite Wojciesz\u00f3w’s history dating back to the 13th century and several interesting historical sites in the town, it is primarily associated with industrial limestone quarrying, which developed on a large scale in the late 19th century. There were several quarries operating in the vicinity, including the most famous and the only ones still in operation today on the Po\u0142om Mountain<\/a>, directly to the west from Wojciesz\u00f3w. At its peak, the local lime factories employed around 1200 people.<\/p>\n

Sights<\/h4>\n

The oldest historic building in the town is the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lower Wojciesz\u00f3w, dating back to the 13th-14th centuries. Most of the furnishings are from the Baroque period, and there are Gothic tombstones in the presbytery floor. On the external wall, there are five full-length stone tombstones of the von Zedlitz family. Nearby, there is an unused evangelical church from 1754, with a tower from 1913, and a palace from the turn of the 18th\/19th century surrounded by a landscape park (currently an Orphanage).<\/p>\n

The palace in Upper Wojciesz\u00f3w, the oldest in the town, was built as a Renaissance manor in 1596 and later transformed into a palace residence in the late 19th century. Currently, it is abandoned and falling into ruin. More palaces can be found in the lower part of the town and at the western foot of Mi\u0142ek<\/a> (currently the educational facility). To the northeast of the town, there are modest remnants of a medieval castle, possibly destroyed during the Hussite Wars.<\/p>\n
